Unbound Victory: Winning America's Toughest Gravel Race with Sofia Gómez Villafane

TRANSCRIPT

Sofia Gómez Villafane is an accomplished cross-country mountain biker and gravel cyclist who has represented Argentina at the highest level, including at the 2020 Summer Olympics.  A former cape epic champion, she’s just finished up this years edition where she was on the podium again.

Sofia was the 2022 unbound winner and finished up 2nd overall in lifetime GP series this past season.

Sofia's insights on health and fitness extend far beyond the world of cycling. In this episode, we'll be talking with her about how she balances her training and competition schedule with other aspects of her life, her approach to nutrition and hydration, and her advice for listeners on everything from tyre choice to that age old gravel question, to aero bar or not.

Today's show sponsor is Wattbike. I've played around with a lot of indoor training tools and they don't come any better than the Wattbike Atom. You can now get 10% off the Wattbike Atom at wattbike.com in their limited time sale. So if you are thinking about a smart bike or like me a turbo was proving frustrating then now's a good time to buy

Today's show is also brought to you with special thanks to our amazing on-going sponsor Factor Bikes

“If you're winning races, people don't really care about your social media presence, because you're the one standing at the top of the podium. But what the social media aspect allows is a rider that, you know, is maybe consistently in the top 10, but isn't quite winning races, or being on podiums, the ability to earn a good enough income, because they have such a large following and have such a voice within the community. And a lot of people listen to them, or the media is always talking about them”
